2025 IIABC Agriculture Designer Workshop Overview

Notice for IIABC Members – One-Time Subsidy Available

IIABC members are eligible for a $400 subsidy provided by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, reducing their course cost to $150. This subsidy is available for one course registration per member in 2025 only. Eligibility will be verified upon registration.

  • Please Note:
    • The $400 subsidy is non-transferable and available only once per member.
    • The $150 member contribution is non-refundable, regardless of withdrawal or non-attendance.
    • If a subsidized registrant cancels or does not attend, the subsidy is forfeited and cannot be applied again.

Course Time: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM

This 2-day workshop is open to all CID disciplines and streams, but it is specifically designed for Agriculture Designers. The main focus will be on Agriculture CID, including Sprinkler and Trickle systems. If you are enrolled in Agriculture CID, this workshop is highly recommended. However, if you are enrolled in any other CID stream or discipline, you are also welcome to attend and benefit from this workshop. Funded by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, the workshop provides a comprehensive learning experience for irrigation professionals. Participants are encouraged to bring their CID course materials, as there will be opportunities for questions and answers throughout the session.

Day 1 – November 18, 2025

  • Legislation & Governance:
    • Key regulations on water withdrawal, intake installation, backflow prevention, and chemigation.
  • Irrigation System Selection:
    • In-depth discussion on sprinkler, gun, and center pivot systems, and criteria for selecting the appropriate system.
  • Sprinkler System & Gun System Design:
    • Focus on nozzle selection, pressure, spacing, and flow control for optimal system performance.
  • Center Pivot System Design:
    • Design principles, application rates, and considerations for implementing center pivot systems.

Day 2 – November 19, 2025

  • Crop, Soil, and Climate Considerations:
    • Understanding the impact of soil and crop type on irrigation design and system efficiency.
  • Pipe Selection & System Demand:
    • Methods for calculating pipe size, pressure requirements, and overall system demand.
  • Motors, Pumps, and Power Requirements:
    • Guidance on selecting and sizing motors and pumps to ensure system efficiency.
  • Final Project/Case Study:
    • Apply knowledge gained throughout the workshop to design a comprehensive irrigation system.

When are the next CIT-1 and CIT-2 courses being held?

Course dates and locations are posted on the website as soon as they are planned. Each year at our annual convention in November and Jan-Mar in selected regions. Regional courses are not posted until after the annual Convention.

YES, but you must first pass the CIT-Level 1 exam before you can write the CIT- Level 2 exam.

No, the CIT course must be taken and exam then successfully passed to become IIABC CIT-1 Certified.

Yes, but it is highly recommended that a person take some irrigation design training which can be done where offered. Agriculture design courses are offered if a waitlist of at least 10 people is reached.
